About BLUE RIDE Specialist Training

This course is fluid depending on the individuals.
The emphasis is on 'intuition' and thinking ahead.
It can fit into corporate days and is unique.

The tangible skills of operating a boat
The most essential quality for a boat captain is the ability to take charge. The crew recognises that ability when they are kept informed, feel confident and are safe. A tour of the boat involves a safety brief and demonstration of the emergency equipment.
At the start of a course there will be guidance on boat handling and collision avoidance. Followed by passage planning, weather information, pilotage and navigation.

Decision making afloat
An example is the 'man overboard' recovery when a casualty (fender) goes over the side. The current boat driver has to instantly brief the crew and return to retrieve 'the casualty'. A discussion on the problems of having a real person in the water usually follows.
This is intended to be a test of fundamental emergency reaction and needs rapid thinking. This instantly encourages creative team thinking in an unusual environment

Evolving Challenges
Initially the sea, weather and 'crew settling' provide sufficient challenges. Raw competence can be observed by how candidates approach these situations. Depending on the individuals the course provides increasingly complex simulated scenarios. At the end of each day every candidate is debriefed and given recommendations. All candidates receive a certificate based on the number of BLUE RIDE training days.

Intuitive training
For some candidates this will instantly be part of the course and one day achieves this. For others the first days are needed to settle their confidence of practical boat handling. We are looking for a 'groove' where things happen instinctively and 'feel' right
If you sail offshore for extended periods you will understand the power of this sensation. Depending on your expectations a two or three day course may be most effective. Every day is intended to be a hugely positive experience for every participant
